AI Essentials: Using Generative AI Effectively and Ethically is a 2026–2027 Texas Department of Information Resources State Certified Artificial Intelligence Training Program.

Generative AI can support learning, productivity, and creative work, but using it effectively requires more than knowing how to enter a prompt. This introductory course explains how generative AI works, where it performs well, and where human judgment remains essential.

Through practical examples and short activities, learners will explore effective prompting, responsible AI use, information verification, privacy, bias, and academic or workplace expectations.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Write clearer prompts for common learning and workplace tasks.
  • Evaluate AI-generated content for accuracy, bias, and relevance.
